What it is
Geraniol (3,7-dimethylocta-trans-2,6-dien-1-ol) is a naturally occurring acyclic monoterpene alcohol with a sweet, rose-like scent, found abundantly in rose oil, palmarosa oil, geranium oil, and citronella oil. One of the most common fragrance ingredients in consumer products. One of the 26 fragrance allergens requiring mandatory individual declaration under EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III if present above 0.001% in leave-on products or 0.01% in rinse-off products. Like limonene and linalool, geraniol's oxidation products (geraniol hydroperoxide, geranial) are more potent sensitizers than the parent compound. Sensitization rate ~1–3%. Proper storage and antioxidant-containing formulations reduce allergenicity.

Why the amount matters, not just the presence
Most ingredient checkers tell you whether something is in the bottle. That is a smaller question than it sounds. Geraniol at 1% and geraniol at a trace level are not the same ingredient in any way that affects your skin.
