What it is
Benzyl Salicylate is a synthetic ester widely used as a fragrance fixative and UV absorber in perfumery, with a mild, sweet, floral scent. One of the most prevalent fragrance allergens in consumer products. Frequently detected in perfumes, lotions, shampoos, and household products. One of the 26 fragrance allergens requiring mandatory individual declaration under EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III if present above 0.001% in leave-on products or 0.01% in rinse-off products. Sensitization rate ~1–2%. Additionally, some studies suggest weak endocrine-disrupting activity (estrogenic). The EU SCCS has reviewed and continues to monitor. Cross-reactivity with balsam of Peru possible.

Why the amount matters, not just the presence
