What it is
Ascorbyl Glucoside (AA2G) is a glycoside of ascorbic acid where a glucose molecule is attached to the C2 position, protecting it from oxidation. Enzymatically cleaved by glucosidase on skin to release free ascorbic acid slowly. Providing sustained brightening and antioxidant activity. Key properties: (1) Excellent aqueous stability (unlike ascorbic acid, does not require low pH to remain stable); (2) No photosensitization; (3) Water-soluble. Easily formulated in serums, essences, and toners; (4) Very well tolerated. Among the gentlest Vitamin C derivatives. Clinical studies confirm efficacy for brightening, melasma reduction, and mild anti-aging at 2–3% concentrations. The slow-release mechanism provides lower peak concentrations of active ascorbic acid but sustained delivery. Popular in K-beauty formulations. Safe at all cosmetic concentrations.

Why the amount matters, not just the presence
